smoke, mirrors, fire, & film.
1. Three mirrored surfaces create a disorienting effect. First a large mirror behind the subject is at an angle such that the ceiling and atrium are reflected back at the camera. this creates a gravity defying escher-esque perspective as the ceiling being reflected back is lit but not the mirror frame. The subject is wearing a pair of mirrored sunglasses that completely obscure their eyes, although these are hard to see initially because they are lit from above and behind - further throwing the mirror behind them into shadows. Finally a small magnifying hand mirror is held by the subject so a magnified image of their face is thrown back into (a) the reflective sunglasses (b) the large mirror behind them or (c) the camera itself. the subject lights a cigarette with a match, letting it burn longer than necessary and creating a temporary light source with a much different color than the ceiling or back lighting. Although the match is out of frame it is reflected in the sunglasses and hand mirror which means either the source can be seen twice in the shot via the hand mirror to sunglasses or in two different shots - sunglasses, then hand mirror. possibly a third image of the match burning via split screen mirror effect. a slow zoom is used on the subjects face to focus on the effect of the light on their face.

2. Bottle rockets are set up in bottom weighted bottles and dropped out in the water in succession, a wide angle gives the reflection of the fuse burning up on the water as well as the image of several bottles in the frame at once. As the fireworks go off the shot pans from left to right across the series of bottles, picking up the light from the fireworks and its fragmented reflection.

3. Bottle rockets out of the frame take off an refract through a smattering of broken glass on the ground, picking up light from several different parts of the bottle rocket. Alternately if the glass is not picking up the fireworks well then glass and a long fuse amongst the I

4. Interspersed with closeups of a match starting up, fuses burning, bottle rocket taking off, cigarette burning in the dark. maybe sparklers.

5. Extra effects: Camera obscura using the DV Cam's infinite focus and the optical lens from a telescope (?) and shooting through a slightly dusty 35 MM zoom to give a more filmic quality. Using an especially high frame rate to fully capture motion of fireworks OR especially low to leave a large trail behind fireworks.

kind of too late to respond to this, but anyway, I liked your film. the simplicity of the concept as well as the image was good. I think that's something I'm trying to acheive...
